Dream Keeper Co-Founder/ President |
Elron Lamont Savage has dedicated his life to trying to make a difference in the lives of every person that he is blessed
to meet and that he gets to know. He currently works as both a substitute teacher and an upcoming bus driver for Accomack
County Schools, where he went to schools and graduated from back in 2000. In the summer, he serves as teacher for LaCosecha
Migrant Head Start in Tasley. In fact, Savage has served in the field of education for almost the last ten years, and he has
done this in different capacities.
After his high school graduation in June of 2000, and after several life struggles, Savage would go on to work with the
Project Discovery High School Dropout Prevention program through the Eastern Shore Area Agency and Community Action Agency,
a program in which he graduated from and even served as Student President, and would serve as an Associate Director until
2005. The Dream Keeper Leader would eventually begin his long run with Accomack County Schools in during the mid fall of 2000
as a volunteer, and would become a substitute teacher November of 2001. He has served at Kegotank Elementary, Nandua High,
Nandua Middle, Central Middle, Parksley Middle, Mary N. Smith Middle, Arcadia High, Pungoteague Elementary, Metompkin Elementary
(where he started), and Accawmacke Elementary, where he currently serves and passionately calls Home. It is through this
job where he strives to make a difference everyday with every child that he meets.
Savage has also been employed with Mercantile Peninsula Bank (Now PNC Bank), CVS Pharmacy, and Movie Gallery among others.
He has served in management during several of his job tenures and works closely with administrations today, working to make
a difference.
Born and raised on the Eastern Shore, Elron grew up remembering activities that he had to do, like go to arcades, play
recreation basketball with Parks and Recreation, and even played baseball with Central Accomack Little League. He remembered
going to high school football games and not having to worry about violence plaguing the grounds. He also remembered watching
these things disappear and the fun times go away as times changed. Savage eventually knew these things had to change. In a
conversation with his cousin, DK President Marcus Riley, the cousins discussed the fun times that used to be on the Shore
and how they have disappeared. The two cousins knew that they had to make something happen eventually. They eventually talked
about creating a community center to give back to the shore what the shore had once given to them. The cousins would eventually
put the project to rest in 2003 and go on with life. It would not be long before Savage would see the need of giving back
to the community and that shore would needed to be presented a voice.
Now as an educator, Savage would see the need of students needing a place to go for after school. He would see the need
of people who need help in other ways. But most importantly, he would see the need to give back to the community in other
ways that just recreation. He then remembered the conversation with Marcus back in 03, and from that conversation, in 2005,
Savage would conceive the idea for a community center dreams team, which would become Dream Keepers.
Today, Elron serves in the most important role of his life, the role of visionary and leader to a group of other visionaries.
And along with Marcus, Dream Keepers looks to make a difference in the lives of the people on the Eastern Shore. Coining the
phrase, This is what we do,This is who we are, now leads the Keepers as they try to not only build a community center, but
give people hope and help in ways never thought possible.
Even through all the struggles he may go through, President Savage realizes that he has been a gift and an ability to
make a difference in lives. It is a gift that he takes not for granted and a dedication to the people that the team serves.
It is a commitment to the team, the community and even beyond that presses him to strive for the unlimited potential that
lies within us all.
