Dream Keeper Update Date: May 5, 2009
Dream Keepers Kickoff 2009- Coming in soon!!!!
Greetings Dream Keepers and Supporters!!!!
For those who are getting the update for the first time, welcome to DKU, Dream Keepers’ bi-weekly update!!!!
And to those of you who are getting the update again after its lengthy absence, sorry to keep you waiting and happy New Year.
We are finally getting ready to kickoff our year, which actually includes events this year and the dawning
of our first major project: The Dream Keeper Step Team!!! More about these events in a moment, first off, a few announcements
about some new changes that have occurred on the DK Team, changing our governing outlook, so here we go.
For those of you who missed the DK Conference, back in December, you missed the arrival of President Marcus Riley,
who brought his insight and a change of direction for the organization. 2009 also saw the forming of the Executive Board,
several of Dream Keepers’ Directors forming a governing body that will help enact policies that will govern Dream Keepers
and the new wave of projects that we will be designing for our community. In addition, three major promotions have also taken
place that will propel the team in true leadership and direction. First, congratulations to Area Director Auzalia Brown, who
was promoted to the position of Chief Director. Auzalia will now oversee the proper positioning of Directors and will be the
lead trainer for any new named directors.. Auzalia still currently serves as Area Director of Northampton, and is the spiritual
leader of the team, a position in which we all can appreciate. Congratulations, Chief Director. Another Chief Director maybe
named soon, these two positions are extremely important to the balance of the top part of government for the organization
and the Executive Board.
The next major promotion is the pos ition of Vice President. This position serves as the right hand (or #1 officer)
of the Presidents and will help govern the team, both in policy and in leadership. This person also co-governs the Executive
Board and advises the Presidents in decisions that need to be made and will also help determine some decision themselves.
For this position, President Riley and I nominated Executive Area Director Stephanie Turner for this position. This was due
to Area Director being a key figure in some of the major decisions that have helped shape the organization in its early days,
and continues to do so now. And with their first duty as the Executive Board, the board approved Area Director Turner to the
position of Vice President of the Dream Keepers organization, leaving for the first time, Dream Keepers Nandua without their
beloved leader since its inception. Which leads to the third major position change of the organization, the installing of
a new Area Director for DK Nandua.
Vice President Turner’s Associate Director, Director Charlene Finney, was offered and accepted the position as
the new Area Director of Dream Keeper Nandua, bringing a whole new look to the organization’s biggest area. So a lot
has changed in DK and we congratulate all of our promotees, but our goal remains extremely clear, so with the new announcement
s now cleared, let us talk about this year’s events and missions. First off, one more update…
As many of you know, DK Kids’ Director LaShauna Christian, was recently in crisis when her daughter, LaNiya,
was admitted in the hospital and PMRC and then transferred to the University Of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore with a bout
with pneumonia. I am proud to report that our beloved Niya is home and is back to 100%. As you can imagine, LaShauna is tired,
but relieved and does thank everyone for their prayers and support for Niya. In fact, the DK Kids’ Director is getting
some needed rest before she resumes her duties and her first major project for Dream Keepers… more about that in a moment.
But, thankfully, God has given us Niya back, and I can tell you that she really is back!!!!
Okay, to the business at hand. It is kickoff year for Dream Keepers. For the last almost two years, we have been building
the team as a whole, and we have been trying to work hard to create the formula that will help us drive the pillars into the
foundation and gets the organization running. Now we have prepared, and we have persevered through the toughest times and
some of our biggest obstacles. Now we are here and after all the stumbling blocks, the brick walls, everything that we could
possibly face, we are finally here. So here we go.
Our kickoff will begin in the month of May with a Family Movie Night. This will be a fundraiser that will set us up
for our first major team for Dream Keepers, once again, I will tell you about that in a second, but back to FMN. This event
will cost $5, this includes admission, a bag of popcorn and a drink. The goal of this is to make the evening affordable and
fun. The movie selected will be the MEGA HIT, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”. I have created the
flyers and they will be available by the website and from Dream Keeper members and officers. This will be taken care of just
as soon as the location is sealed. However, the proceeds for this event go to a really great cause, so let’s talk about
it.
This year, we are proud to bring forth the Eastern Shore’s very own community Step Team. LaShauna is the coordinator
for the step team activities, and will be assist ed by two coordinators. There will be 3 different teams in each county with
ages scaling from grades Pre-K to Senior Year of High School. This one event has generated a buzz amongst
those who have heard about it and are excited about the thought. In the coming weeks, I will explain the concept of how the
Step Team will work, and LaShauna is working on the people who will be guiding the teams. She will be guiding the creation
and guidelines of the team and will need our support in making this project work. Which goes back to our Movie Night, partial
of the proceeds will go to the start of the Step Team, as well as the main DK Budget. The cost of the Step Team a month will
be $5. And remember, this is for our kids of all ages and ethnic groups.
For those of my readers who are school officials, you will be a big help. We will need practice areas, but they do
not need to be in the school buildings on beautiful spring and summer days. If you have any ideas on how we can get around
this, please contact me. You will be receiving a letter in a few weeks which will ask you for your ideas on how DK can work
with you to make this Step Team project successful both fundamentally and academically. The children who have heard about
this project are being encouraged that they really need to continue to do well academically and it will take school officials,
parents, and DK team members to make this happen. This may be fun, but having our children excel in the classroom is just
as important as anything. For any ideas or help, please feel free to contact me at dkpresidentesavage@lycos.com or at the Dream Keeper Main Email communitycenterdreams@yahoo.com . We will be anticipating and appreciating your support.
Other events that are hoping to be scheduled for this year are now on the Dream Keeper Calendar on the DK website.
The website address is http://easternshoredreamkeepers.tripod.com . Click on the DK Calendar, but please be advised that all dates are tentative and are being scheduled
at this time. Any additional events will be posted as time continues.
Speaking of LaShauna Christian, who is getting a lot of name time in this update (more than usual), do you know that the Director
of DK Kids now has her own, child-friendly website. The Dream Keeper Kids website is online and has games and places for your
child or you to safely and securely place your thoughts on anything child related for the Kids’ program. Also check
out a new feature, called “Director’s Thoughts” which is her personal thoughts about how the program will
run or about some of the events or just random thoughts about children. And Kid’s Diary, a safe place where children
can leave their thoughts or pictures, please read disclaimer on the site before they post…safety first. And the most
popular part of the site, the Kids Arcade, which is a combination of some of the most popular games that come from the best
sites on the web, all categorized by boys, girls, small children, and yes, adults. ARE YOU SPARKED YET? Let’s find out…
go to http://dreamkeeperkids..tripod.com and leave LaShauna an email about the site. Believe me, she looks for any emails possible so check
out the Contact us page on her site.
Okay, that is about everything I can tell you for now. We are getting started so stay tune to find out our next move for Kickoff
year 2009. Until then, this is DKU. God bless and talk to you soon.
Sincerely,

Elron Lamont Savage
